WeCan Africa Initiative (WAI), is a youth-led non-for-profit and non-governmental organization that focuses on empowering young people and women for improved socio-economic growth and societal development. WeCan empowers young people especially girls by strengthening their access to opportunities in economic empowerment, education, skills development and leadership.
The world is faced with so many challenges, raging from lack of access to quality and inclusive education, limited economic opportunities, increasing environmental crises etc. leading to increased poverty and inequality. Founded in 2018, WeCan was established upon the idea that, with all these multifaceted challenges, We Can All Come Together As One People, Work Together With A Shared Vision, Of Making The World A Better Place For Us and For All.

This was inspired by an encounter that our founders, as undergraduate students in 2018, had of a young mother in Dididi Community Kano state, whom they found was struggling to live a dignified life, because at a very young age, she was made to face marriage, without the right skills, education and knowledge to thrive. This they also discovered was a trend in the community.
Even though they were students, they were determined to take action. They mobilized a team of other young people and they sensitized the community on the need to empower young girls and further trained over 200 women and girls in the community on various vocational and entrepreneurship skills.
This led to the founding of WeCan Africa Initiative. Our Vision and Mission are:
